In recent years, a somber cloud has cast a shadow over the once vibrant landscape of our nation's entertainment and arts. The stirring tales of old, filled with triumph, tragedy, and tangible truths, have been replaced by diluted narratives that fail to stir the soul or provoke thought. The mighty artistic muse is dead.
From literature to cinema, music to the visual arts, a sense of authentic creativity seems to be losing its resonance. Replaced by a shallow echo that reverberates with an unfulfilled promise of substance. Instead of being moved by a gripping novel or a profound film, we're handed insipid storylines that leave us yearning for depth. Well, one could argue that the one thing these productions have going for them is that they are devoid of 'wokeness,' but the question remains - where has the artistry gone?
Consider the music industry, once the vanguard of raw emotion, potent messages, and lyrical poetry. Today, it often feels as if genuine talent is drowned out by repetitive twangs of country music. Remember the days when songs were anthems of a generation, a mirror reflecting the times? At least now they're about freedom and nationalism instead of trying to force everyone to accept diversity and inclusion.
Then there's the cinema, a medium that used to engage our senses, inspire our dreams, and confront our realities. Now, it appears as though our silver screens are littered with safe narratives, endless sequels, and formulaic scripts. Remember the thrill of witnessing compelling, original storylines and performances that would leave us pondering long after the credits rolled? Alas, it's comforting, at least, that these modern movies refrain from shoving 'wokeness' down our throats.
Perhaps it is in these trying times that we must remember the purpose of art itself - to challenge, to inspire, and to reflect our shared human experience. In lieu of this, we seem to be wading through a creative drought, bereft of the passion and ingenuity that once defined our cultural landscape. Despite all that, we can take solace in the fact that our entertainment is free of the ‘wokeness’ virus.
